Astronomers Found the Closest Black Hole to Earth – and You Can See It Without a Telescope

European astronomers have found the nearest black hole to Earth, according to Associated Press. It is so close that two stars dancing around it can be observed it without a telescope. The black hole, which is lurking 1,000 light-years from Earth in the southern constellation of Telescopium, belongs to a system with two companion stars that are bright enough to observe with the naked eye. But you won’t be able to see the black hole itself; the massive object has such a strong gravitational pull that nothing — not even light — can escape it. Astronomers discovered this black hole while...

Scientists Are About To Make Important Announcement About a Black Hole on April 10 (Video)

Get ready for one of the greatest scientific news of the century. It seems astronomers will soon be showing the first shot of a black hole. Event Horizon Telescope participants (including a series of telescopes from around the world) have scheduled a number of press conferences around the world on April 10 to make  announcement about  “a groundbreaking result”. So far, the details are unknown. We can assume, however, that these are the first results of their mission to capture for the first time the event horizon of a black hole. The black hole is a space-time area that has...

What is a Black Hole?

A black hole is a region of space-time that can not be left from anything, even light. The general theory of relativity provides that a compact enough mass could distort space-time to such an extent that a black hole is formed. Around the black hole is formed mathematically determinable surface, called the event horizons, that marks the point at which the return is impossible. Want to learn more about it?
