The internet is once again abuzz with conspiracy theories after an image of a perfect ‘square structure’ was spotted on the surface of Mars.
So grab your tinfoil hats—it’s time to dive deeper.
As one of our closest planetary neighbors and the most promising candidate for human colonization in our solar system (aside from Earth, of course), Mars has always captivated human imagination.
Major Hollywood blockbusters have depicted us settling there, H.G. Wells turned it into the home of hostile invaders, and even Donald Trump once vowed to plant the US flag on its surface. There’s truly no place quite like Mars.
Which is why any news or conspiracy theories about the planet spread like wildfire.
The latest Mars mystery to grab our attention is the discovery of an unusual square-like structure by NASA.

Images of the grey, almost unnaturally perfect ‘object’ have been making the rounds on social media for days, even catching the eye of Joe Rogan, who weighed in with the comment: “This is f**king WILD.”
Naturally, the emergence of a structure that appears ‘man-made’ has sent the internet into a frenzy, with believers quick to hail it as proof of a long-lost alien civilization.
Meanwhile, skeptics (or non-believers, depending on where you stand) dismiss it as nothing more than an overhyped illusion.
What do we know about the Mars square structure?
First things first—the structure is real. It was actually captured by NASA’s Mars Orbiter Camera back in 2001. You can check out the fully zoomed-out segment here.

The image comes from a small section of a crater on the planet, with the square formation located near the top.
So why is everyone suddenly obsessed with it?
This isn’t the first time a seemingly unnatural shape on Mars has fueled wild theories. Over the years, internet sleuths have claimed to spot everything from tunnels and faces to even Bigfoot roaming the Red Planet.
What makes this case different is that many people find it hard to believe that such a precise square shape could have formed naturally—without the influence of something (or someone).
But before you start rolling out the welcome mat for extraterrestrials, it’s worth remembering that straight lines do exist in nature.
Several responses to the original thread pointed out that natural formations like the Giant’s Causeway in Northern Ireland, the Eye of the Sahara, and Turkey’s ‘Fairy Chimneys’ could easily seem artificial to an alien visitor.
Regardless, the image has now caught the attention of Mars enthusiast Elon Musk, who would undoubtedly jump at the chance to send SpaceX there for a closer look.
He responded to Rogan’s tweet: “We should send astronauts to Mars to investigate!”
